Joan has always been passionate about helping others and treating each individual with compassion and respect. Growing up in a large family, Joan graduated from Cathedral High School and Purdue University in Indiana. She attended the University of Dayton School of Law where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, was Law Review Articles Editor, and President of the Law Fraternity.
Following Law School, Joan clerked at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims Office of Special Masters in Washington, D.C. After her clerkship, she was hired by the Department of Justice as a trial attorney in the Civil Torts Division. Her experience ranged from litigation with the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program to the transfer of the Panama Canal from the United States to Panama - or as she likes to say - from “shots to ships”. She received a Special Commendation for Outstanding Service on the Panama Canal Litigation Team.
After taking time to raise her 4 children, Joan established Coleman Law, PLLC, where she primarily handled Domestic Relations and Juvenile cases as a certified Guardian Ad litem. She routinely represented children in abuse and neglect cases, contested custody proceedings, and delinquency matters. Joan demonstrates the tenacity and compassion necessary to be an effective advocate for her wards, always putting their needs first. She routinely appears before the Judges of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and the Circuit Court on a daily basis. In 2022, Joan was awarded the Guardian Ad Litem of the year in Prince William County for her distinguished service.
Joan is thrilled to be a part of Tobias Iszard and looks forward to working for her clients with the highest level of integrity, care, and professionalism.
